Re: Netflix announces new 3D animated series for Sonic the Hedgehog
This whole multiverse thing is starting to get repetitive, but I think with the right approach this could actually work well. It is strange how much this concept turns up, especially in supplementary material, isn't it? Moving between different dimensions was a big thing in the Fleetway and (I thin...

Re: Netflix announces new 3D animated series for Sonic the Hedgehog
So, the fact that they're using a silhouette of Modern Sonic in the promo image means that this can't be a tie-in to the movie, right? RIGHT??? If so, let's hope Jim Carrey's agent isn't too strict about his likeness rights. One of the mentioned studios, Man of Action, doesn't exactly have the best ...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog movie
Not to steer this topic away from Jim Carrey and blue arms, but... Would you believe that both episodes of Sonic 4 have higher Metacritic scores than Forces , both versions of Lost World, both handheld Sonic Boom games, and the HD Unleashed ? Even the SD version of Unleashed is still a good 15 point...

Re: Pop: Super Tails and Super Silver
I seemed to have some weird false memory of Tails going super in, of all things, the Sonic Rivals games, but after a quick glance at a wiki I was proven wrong. He wasn't even in the first one! The original Runners, maybe? I wonder why Tails and Silver specifically were packaged together? Surely Soni...

Re: Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX
Is there a reason they're remaking Miracle World specifically? I appreciate that (based on purely anecdotal evidence) it's the most popular instalment by a country mile, but surely the game will already be playable on most platforms where this is being released? It certainly is on Switch and PC thro...

It's perfect. That trailer was perfect to me, like a flawless diamond or the melody of a young dove.
Sometimes, I read over old posts from this forum, like from around 2004, and see how hopeful everyone is for the future of this franchise. And then, I just scream and scream.

New major game, old minor lame
The confusingly-abbreviated SXSW Gaming convention apparently happened today, and brought with it confirmation of the next major Sonic title being in development and an animated short based on Team Sonic Racing (blue arms at 0:31) in the style of Sonic Mania Adventures, with another to come later. T...

Re: New game studio from Mania team
It's a very nice logo. As someone who enjoyed Mania, but felt it was really let down by the recycled material, I'm very interested to see what these guys can do with a (hopefully) original idea. The Retro Engine was a lovely piece of kit, and I'm sure the Star Engine is even better, so now's the per...

Re: Sonic Mania Adventures
Interesting that it snows in an area warm enough to grow palm trees, but what an adorable cartoon. Eternal Classic-pandering isn't what I want from this franchise (though that certainly does seem where things are leading), but as harmless spinoff material these shorts have been just delightful.

Re: Sonic in Mario the Fighters
And yet Bomberman is stuck as an assist trophy while Snake prances around like he did a decade ago. I'd rather think along the lines of "Nintendo wants to minimize third-party characters!" instead of "Nobody cares about [x] being playable!", but that's probably a little naive. I don't have the game,...

You know what's putting me off most about the silhouette? It's not the Payless shoes, gross Hershey Kiss-nose, or extraneously tacked-on head spikes - it's the hands - dear god, the hands! They're fucking disgusting! Why are they so long ? Why are his thumbs so far up? How many fingers will this mon...

And also a neat little thing in the music sound test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOvvCVcCvmw That is so weird ! And the Blue Spheres sprites are nearly identical to magnified versions of the Sonic Bros in ball form, down to the exact same colours - is that where the S3&K developers got the ide...

I've got the game and worked my way through half of the Robot Masters at this point. I've enjoyed it so far, but the closest game I can compare it to is Mega Man 4 - my least favourite of the NES games - which means loads of minibosses, long-ass stages, and brutal, occasionally unfair enemy placemen...

I really enjoyed that Wonder Boy remake! Dotemu's art and animation quality is great and they've really got a solid in-house "style" that makes their work stand out. That said , the Wonder Boy remake had very little in terms of new gameplay content, so we'll just have to see whether these guys can b...

Re: Everybody Super Sonic failing... (Team Sonic Racing)
"Dodonpa," eh? Sounds Japanese. According to Wikipedia,"Dodonpa" (as in "DoDonPachi" ) is onomatopoeia for a rumbling, booming sound - not unlike, say, that of a motor vehicle. It's a pun! I expect the name to be localized into something insipid like "Wheeler" or "Boomer" or "G. Asoline". Also: a t...

Re: Everything old is Neo again
Neo Turf Masters is generally accepted to be the pinnacle of golfing video games. Much like the actual sport, it is a game of timing, spacial awareness, and factors of distance, wind, and terrain, with no padding or otherwise faffing about like in those Camelot RPGs - you'll be hitting your first ba...

Do the vehicle designs have to be so one-note? Blaze is a cat! Therefore, her car has cat ears. PERFECT!
I actually thought Silver's kart was floating, which would have been interesting. Then I opened the full-size image in a separate window and was instantly disappointed.

The finale was cute, few niggles asides. (What was up with Tails coughing right at the end? ) It was pretty weird that the credit montage didn't include any Knuckles gameplay , though... While I still consider AoSTH (and the OVA) better than this series, I can say I thoroughly I enjoyed every episod...

Re: Sonic 2018
With all the Sonic Mania Plus hype, now would be a good time to finally port SegaSonic and/or Chaotix over to current systems. Surely it's time for a Sonic R port? It'd be a neat way to promote the new racing game - though, at the same time, it would remind players of the empty promise in the STR l...

I know they basically had to make the personalities of both of these characters up, but surely they could have been something other than alt-design Tails and Knuckles.

Re: Sonic Mania Adventures
I enjoy them, but they're nothing substantial and I'm glad they're so short. The artwork is cute, but some things look really weird (the CalArts bean mouths are terrible), and the animation is quite choppy, occasionally to the show's benefit. I'd never pay money for these things, but they'll be nice...

Re: Everybody Super Sonic failing... (Team Sonic Racing)
What does the "Team" mean? Will we get wisps riding along in a side-car? They'd best have some sort of gimmick lined up, because otherwise this game looks utterly generic in every regard. (I quite liked the little guitar tune in the trailer, though.) Wonder what could possibly be the motive. Transfo...
