Glad everything's up and running again! I was worried the site had gone with no fanfare (or archive).

Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini

The Mega Drive mini is out today. In Japan, Beep! magazine has been revived, as a special edition is being produced for the mini: https://www.play-asia.com/beep-mega-drive-fan-2-and-mega-drive-mini-magazines-combined-spe/13/70cw69 It's a double revival - a mash-up of both Beep! Mega Drive and Mega ...

Re: Mario and Sonic at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The Mario & Sonic Olympics devs really like using Eggman Nega. It makes sense, since he's an easy to model roster filler like Princess Daisy and Dry Bowser, but it stands out a little since, for some reason, he's never used in any of the racing or mobile games. I never bought any of the previous one...

Re: Sonic Mania Artbook?

It still has the "November 1998 - Now" text at the top right, like the original book did (which was split between the pre-Adventure and post-Adventure eras). So I see three possibilities: 1. That image is just a quick mock-up, and it really is a Sonic Mania art book. 2. It's just an updated/expanded...

Re: OK K.O!/Sonic crossover

It's a fun show, though I'm only a few episodes into it. There's definitely a lot of Sonic in its DNA - the villain voiced by Jim Cummings is more or less Eggman. The creator of the show, Ian Jones-Quartey, used to post on Sonic HQ back in the day.

Re: Jakks Pacific acquires Sonic license

That's pretty significant! I guess they're saving Ray and Metal Sonic for wave 3.

I wonder if Fang, Bark and Bean are available to licensees. They were all in Sonic Mania, but they wouldn't necessarily have created new reference/model sheets for them.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

It's similar to how Super Mario Maker on Wii U used Mega Drive Sonic 1 sprites for the Sonic Mystery Mushroom costume, despite all the rest being in an 8-bit NES style. Aesthetically, the Sonic Pocket Adventure sprites would have been a better fit. But it's clear that Nintendo favours NES Super Mari...

That's very peculiar. Maybe Sega wasn't paying close attention to what TecToy was doing?

Re: Sega Mega Drive Mini

Another 10 games have been revealed. I think the biggest surprise is the inclusion of the 2 Disney platformers: Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion. It's a huge surprise, and a very pleasant one at that. Castle of Illusion is one of the games that defined the Mega Drive, so its inclusion reall...

Re: Brothers from another motherboard

The Sonic Band was hiding inside the ROM!

This is the first time we've ever seen in-game sprites of Max, Mach and Sharps. It's probably safe to assume that this is how they would have looked (finalised designs and colour schemes) in Sonic 1, had they not been cut.

Re: Revenge of the nerds

The whole point of Eggman studying the Super Ring was to use it as a backdoor to Hidden Palace. At the end of the game, Eggman and Metal Sonic disappear inside the ring and it's boss fight time. You fight Red Metal Sonic even if you have all the Chaos Rings so what is powering him? I posit the Mast...

Everything old is Neo again

From what I can tell, Hamster have been releasing their Arcade Archives titles on a weekly basis, mainly focusing on the Neo Geo MVS. I have a lot of nostalgic fondness for the Neo Geo ( that startup jingle ), thanks to annual childhood holidays in Spain, where they were abundant. Despite this, I'm ...

Re: Brothers from another motherboard

I have to wonder whether the yellow and red Sonics were ever intended to be thought of as characters, if we were supposed to take the game's title literally. It's not like they're even given names or anything, and the gameplay itself has dozens of Sonics on screen at a time. It seems like the Sonic ...

Re: Sonic 2018

SegaSonic and Chaotix aren't that great games (especially SegaSonic). It's probably better for Sega if they remain unreleased. At least that way, they can keep a mythical quality to them. I'm a big believer that video game publishers should keep their back catalogues as available as possible, wheth...

Re: Sonic 2018

With all the Sonic Mania Plus hype, now would be a good time to finally port SegaSonic and/or Chaotix over to current systems. Or a compilation of the Whitehead versions of Sonic 1/2/CD - but Sonic 1 is already coming to Switch as part of Sega Ages, which would complicate things. Realistically, I'm ...

Re: Sonic in Mario the Fighters

Apparently the Assist Trophy Knuckles burrows underground and uppercuts opponents. He also homing attacks in a Sonic-like fashion. I feel like having Metal Sonic as an Echo Fighter would be a bit of a disservice to the character. He's still most associated with his debut in Sonic CD, where he didn't...

Knuckles has been confirmed as an Assist Trophy - shown up a few times in gameplay videos. Interestingly, Shadow's Assist Trophy from the previous two games hasn't shown up in any of the E3 gameplay footage. There's been a lot of speculation that Shadow will be upgraded to an "Echo Fighter" (clone c...

It seems to be based upon the music used in the tutorial after selecting your character, and level 4, Trap Tower.

I'm pretty stoked for this. The first two games were great, Transformed especially. I'm not sure this will beat Transformed - it set a really high bar - but if it's at least as good as the first one I'll be satisfied. What does the "Team" mean? "Team Racing Race as a team, win as a team. Use various...

It's been confirmed that the Mega Drive Mini is being made by AtGames . Disappointing, but expected. They say it'll be an improvement over the previous iterations, but they said the same thing last time, so it's probably best to keep expectations low. The new Sega Ages line is pretty exciting though...

Takumi Miyake illustrated the NiGHTS story book . From the art style, it looks like he's the artist who drew all the character-action art in the JP Chaotix manual.
